Are You At Risk For Skin Cancer?

July 6th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I would like to share a personal experience I have just gone through - skin cancer.

This may sound kind of gross but I found a growth on the top of my head.  I ignored it for a while thinking that it might magically go away - well, it didn’t.  Then a very special friend told me that I needed to go to a dermatologist and have it looked.  Luckily, I did.

The dermatologist froze the area, cut off the growth, sent it out to be evaluated, and I waited for 3 weeks before they called me and told me it was pre-cancerous skin cancer and that I needed to come back and have the area frozen with liquid nitrogen to kill any remaining cells.

Everything turned out OK but now I’m finding more little growths on my body and I need to go back and have them checked out as well.

When I was in my 20’s and 30’s I used to enjoy getting a suntan and going to the tanning booth.  No one worried too much about UVA and UVB rays then and I always looked for the suntain oil that would give me the darkest tan — well, now I’m paying for it.

I’m writing this in hopes that I can save someone else the agony of having to go through this.  If you’ve never experienced it, it’s quite scary to realize that you are not immortal.

So, the best skin care advice I can give you is, please remember to use at least SPF30 sunscreen when you are out in the sun - www.ihd.myarbonne.com carries all-natural “BefoRE Sun” sunscreen products - do yourself a favor and check it out!

5 Things You Can Do To Protect Your Hair!

July 5th, 2008

The heat and sun during the summertime take a toll on your hair.   To help maintain the health and beauty of your hair, here are 5 things you can do to protect it.

  1. Try to avoid washing your hair for as long as you can.  Your hair needs its natural oils to protect it from the sun and other elemental attackers.
  2. They now have a number of products that will spray sunscreen onto your scalp and hair.  This will prevent your scalp from burning and your hair color from fading.
  3. Limit the amount of time your hair (and skin) spend in chlorine.  It has a tendency to make skin, nails, and hair dry and brittle and can also affect your hair color.
  4. Let your hair air dry instead of blow-drying.  Using a blow dryer will dry your hair out.
  5. Use all-natural hair care products - “Daily Self-Adjusting Shampoo” and “Daily Self-Adjusting Conditioner” are only a couple of the hair care products that can be found at www.ihd.myarbonne.com.  It doesn’t matter if you have normal, dry, or oily hair - they will automatically adjust to it.

4th of July Skin Care Advice

July 2nd, 2008

Here is some skin care advice to keep in mind while outside this holiday weekend!

  1. Wear a full UVA/UVB sunscreen every day, even under your makeup.  Re-apply sunscreen every 3-4 hours.  If swimming, re-apply more often.
  2. Apply sunscreen to any thin areas on the top of your head and don’t forget the tips of your ears.  This is something you don’t always think of but, speaking from personal experience, it’s important.  I just had a skin cancer removed from the top of my head and that’s enough to make you not ever forget again.
  3. Instead of laying outside to get a tan, use a self-tanner or use a bronzer.  Remember, self-tanners do not contain sunscreen.
  4. Applying an antioxidant cream to the skin at night could help fight the damage done during the day.
  5. Get a facial at the beginning of each  season change.  This will help your skin prepare for the hot summer weather.

You can find natural skin care products at www.ihd.myarbonne.com.  Their “BefoRE Sun” line of sunscreen products are excellent and their “NutriMinC RE9″ anti aging skin care products adjust to any skin type and really work.

I Have Large Pores on My Face - What Can I Do?

June 30th, 2008

A reader recently wanted to know how to have beautiful skin, she said “I have large pores on my face - what can I do for it?”; Glamour Magazine had the answer - “keep them clean, oil clogged pores look larger.”

An excellent way to keep your pores clean is to use an exfoliator.  Exfoliators will also polish your skin, making the pores look more refined.   They are usually used twice a week but if you find one with smaller beads, they can be used daily.  A very good facial scrub made with natural ingredients can be found at www.ihd.myarbonne.com.

Hormone Replacement Therapy Doubles Dementia Risk!

June 29th, 2008

We’ve all heard about the risks to your heart and health that are related to taking hormone replacement therapy drugs.  Here’s a new issue that I just read about:

“Combined hormone therapy for women doubles the risk of dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease.  Combined hormone therapy also does not protect against mild cognitive impairment, a less severe loss of mental function, and it increases the risk of stroke.”

Combined hormone therapy is estrogen/progestin combined drugs.  One safe alternative we know of is to use a natural hormone replacement therapy, such as a natural progesterone cream — you can find an excellent natural balancing cream at www.ihd.myarbonne.com.

This is a very important issue to all women.  If you have any further information, experience, or questions regarding this issue, please comment to this post.  If you don’t want to comment, you can send us an email at questions@hormones-beauty-health.com.

4 Tips To Keep Your Nails Looking Stylish!

June 28th, 2008

We collected the best health and beauty tips for your nails from top manicurists.

  1. Keep Them Short - The season’s bright polishes look best on short nails in a “squoval” (square with rounded edges) shape.
  2. Change It Up - For a quick new look, brush  a sheer pearly shade on top of your existing polish.
  3. Make Your Manicure Last - Apply polish to clean dry nails and reapply top coat every few days.
  4. Keep Your Nails Smooth - Always file your nails in one direction to avoid splitting.

Wacky Bonus Tip - Use tooth whitener to remove stains from your nails.  Apply a gel formula tooth whitener to nail beds and let sit for up to 30 minutes, then wash and moisturize.

Premenopausal? Having Hot Flashes? We Can Help!

June 28th, 2008

Are you having hot flashes but have not yet gone through menopause?  You are having perimenopause symptoms.  One minute you’re fine and the next you’re on fire from the neck up and all you can think about is “I need air - right now”.

This is a common perimenopause symptom and can happen up to 2 years before you’re actually post-menopausal.  Today you have options other than hormone replacement therapy.  It’s called natural progesterone cream (a topical cream that is used once or twice daily).  You just rub some into the thin sections of your body (i.e. underside of your arm, neck, face, palms of your hands, soles of your feet).

You can find an excellent natural balancing cream at www.ihd.myarbonne.com.   I personally have used it and strongly recommend it - it kept my hot flashes under control.

Your Sensitive Skin Need Soothing? Here’s How!

June 25th, 2008

Need some sensitive skin care advice?  Skim or Soy Milk will soothe your skin.

Take a nonabsorbent cloth (like an old pillowcase cut into squares), soak it in the cold skim or soy milk and apply it to the face for 15 minutes three times a week.  This will diminish redness, moisturize, and reduce inflammation.

Bonus Tip:  Store your tweezers in the freezer - the coldness will numb your skin as you pluck!
