The Right Way to Use Vitamin D Supplements

vitamin dWouldn’t it be great if we could get all of the vitamins and minerals we needed out of our food? Well, experts agree that with our busy schedules and processed diets, we’re not getting what we need from our food.

So, I asked experts to share their advice on supplementing our diets to ensure we’re getting enough Vitamin D. Here’s what they told me:

Supplements May Be a Better Option

It’s fairly well known that you can easily get your daily dose of vitamin D from exposure to UVB rays from the sun, but geographic location and seasons can affect quantity and quality of UVB rays. In fact, lower vitamin D levels are often found in people living in the Midwest.

If you live in a cloudy area of the country or experience long winters, taking vitamin D supplements might be a better option than trying to get 10 minutes of sunshine on your skin. We recommend supplementing 1,000 to 2,000 IU daily, especially as you begin to age and your body begins to make less vitamin D.
