Tender Loving Care For Your Skin
Beauty is much more than a pretty face. As we navigate through life, the most beautiful people we encounter are the ones who nurture both their skin and their spirit. Often times we need little reminders that it is important to treat ourselves with some TenderLovingCare.
Here are a few tips from our experts on how we can heal our skin with a bit of TLC by taking care of our bodies, both inside and out.
Your skin needs love, care and consistency.
To get the most out of your skin care products and allow your skin to revitalize itself with wonderful ingredients, it is important that you stick to a daily skin care ritual. In addition to deeply healing and nurturing your skin, your daily skin care ritual should nurture the inner you. No product can make you glow if you go out into the day with stress, worry, and fear.
Cleanse: In the shower, let water coat your entire body. (Be careful! Hot water is harsh on your skin and can strip it of moisture and protective oils. It’s best to wash your skin with warm or even cool water.) Once your body is alive with the sensation of the water, moisten your washcloth or exfoliating towel, and lather it with soap. Use a circular motion to massage the suds over your entire body, starting at the top and working your way down. Massaging your skin stimulates circulation and allows the ingredients to penetrate and restore your skin. Once you have soaked your body, rinse until your skin is clean and fresh. Then do a quick final rinse with cool water (the colder the better!). Cold water will close your pores and tone your skin.
Hydrate: After your shower, gently pat dry (don’t rub!) your skin with a clean towel until it is damp but not dripping wet. Immediately apply your body lotion, and massage it vigorously over your entire body. Lotion is a sealant and acts as a barrier between your skin and the elements. Applying lotion to moist skin essentially “traps” the moisture into your skin. As your skin dries, it will absorb the lotion, leaving your skin soft, vibrant and ready to protect itself from all of the things that slowly wear on your skin.
How do I keep looking my youngest?
Quit smoking. Drink in moderation. Avoid excessive UV radiation and use SPF. Every woman over 30 years of age should have in her skin routine: a great sunscreen that does not degrade away after a few hours of exposure to light, a retinoid cream for night use, a product that has glycolic acid, and great moisturizer to keep the skin from drying out.
How do I perk up my face?
As we age, our skeletal structure also changes. We lose bone and soft tissue. Everything gets hollow and sunken. There are a variety of creams, injections and lasers that help restore your natural anatomy – no surgery or anesthesia needed. Many of these procedures promote your own collagen synthesis – so you are healing naturally from the inside out!
