Shed Pounds Effectively with a Balanced Diet

Eat Healthy (berries)There are numerous fad diets on the market today that claim to help you shed pounds quickly and effectively.  However, often times these diets do not promote the proper nutritional balance that is required for lasting results.  Creating healthy eating habits may take a little longer then some of the other alternatives, but it is a plan that is well worth it in the end.

Learn why balanced nutrition is a better weight loss solution and what healthy food products you can incorporate into your diet to  help you shed pounds effectively.

The Proper Nutrition

When you prepare yourself to diet, can you really prepare yourself? After all, the concept of dieting in our society has been so misconstrued that most people think they have to completely starve themselves, or drink a strict liquid diet that deprives your body of essential nourishment. Our bodies, and our metabolism more specifically, are designed to help us burn fat by taking in essential food groups. In order to burn fat effectively, we must have balanced portions of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat in the foods we eat.

Most people don’t realize that you can have a good weight loss plan that provides you with essential goals and good food! In order for your metabolism to burn excess stored fat, you need to create a working balance between nutrition and weight loss. Without a healthy balance of protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats, our bodies will starve, and pull nutrients from our muscle tissues and cells in order to give our bodies needed energy. This has a counterproductive effect on your metabolism’s ability to burn fat.

Make subtle changes in the way you eat. If you are used to having a certain snack between meals, switch to a healthier alternative. Preferably, you should choose snacks that are high in protein, without a lot of sugar or fat. Nuts and seeds in moderation are good for snacking, and are a healthier supply in your pantry. Also, being hungry on a diet is not a sign that you are losing weight, but it is a sign that your body needs fuel. By eating meals and snacks every few hours you can keep your blood sugar stable and avoid hunger as well as food cravings.

By taking these healthier approaches to enjoying food and creating a balance between nutrition, weight loss will be a little less stressful and a lot more satisfying.

Foods that Support Nutrition

Everything in moderation!

Exercise! If you eat more calories than you burn you WILL put on weight … simple.

There are four foods/food types that will help speed your weight loss:

Eating small quantities of protein on a regular basis (5 – 6 times a day) makes you feel satisfied and full, and will cut your cravings for carbohydrates. Choose lean sources of protein, such as poultry, fish and whey.

There are studies that have shown eating up to 3 oz. (Slightly under 100 grams) of almonds per day may enhance your weight loss.

Replacing refined grains with whole grains increases weight loss and stops the accumulation of belly fat.

Green tea contains caffeine and an anti-oxidant (EGCG) which work together to make you burn more calories. It actually increases your metabolism. And remember, sugar is often more of an enemy than fat.

Weight Release

I use 3 strategies to help women release weight.

Eat whole grains combined with a moderate amount of good fats (fish, flaxseed, nuts and seeds, avocado). A lean protein meal with a low glycemic load will help you stay full longer. Avoid too much salty and meaty food, your body will try to regain balance by craving sugary food. Stay hydrated, our body mistakes thirst for hunger

Our bodies hold on to fat storage when we have a heavy toxic load. Use food to support your body’s natural detox process. Drink a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon every morning to support liver detox. Eat leafy greens and berries, which are fiber-rich foods that support colon detox.

The stress hormone cortisol affects metabolism and causes fat storage. Use relaxing herbs such as chamomile, lemon balm; and adaptogenic herbs, such as holly and basil. Eat calcium-rich foods (calcium has a calming effect for the nervous system) especially at night to help with sleeping. (Dairy may not be the best source because of many factors including bio-availability.) Leafy greens and bone broth are good choices. If stress and anxiety are affecting your life and wellness, consider working with a qualified professional to see if amino acid therapy is right for you.
