Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is an herb that seems to be effective for treating hot flashes in menopausal women. It is thought to suppress the surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) the possible cause of hot flashes. I like a standardized preparation to 2.5% Triterpene glycosides. Black Cohosh appears to be safe with few side effects. It usually takes 2-4 weeks to alleviate or lessen hot flashes with this preparation.
