Extend Your Summer Glow With These Simple Tips

We have been experiencing the weather change here in the Midwest and are well convinced that summer is, in fact, coming to a close. To keep our spirits and skin further aglow we would like to pass on even more advice about how to extend our sun-kissed color long into the months of long sleeves and jackets.

Here are a few more excellent tips from our expert contributor and founder of Raw Bronzing Studio on how to preserve your tan:

Use a Tan Extender or Light Sunless Tanner

To extend your summer glow – whether it’s fake or the real thing – use a lightweight sunless tanner like our favorite ESSENTIALS Foaming Sunless Tan by Rodan+Fields. It contains their RF-Dcell technology, which is derived from dormant narcissus bulb extract, to “quench” the rate of cell hyper-proliferation and extend the duration of the sunless tan. Antioxidant vitamins A, C and E protect skin from free radical damage. This isn’t your average self-tanner. The lightweight, oil-free, mess-free sunless tanning foam applies easily and dries quickly but acts more as a tan extender. It’s subtle color is fool-proof and perfect for evening out tan lines or helping you hang on to your existing color.

Take Cool, Quick Showers

Unfortunately, those long hot showers can accelerate the fading process of your beautiful summer glow. Try taking luke warm or slightly cool showers instead. Not only do long, hot showers dry out the skin which strips the skin of it’s much needed natural oils causing skin to look dry and flaky, it can shorten your sunless tan to only several days. No one wants that!

By taking cooler showers your skin is allowed to retain it’s natural moisture and helps extend the life of your faux glow letting it fade out gradually and smoothly. Pat dry and remember to moisturize your skin and you’ll be able to hang on to that sun-kissed look through the fall!

Wear Loose Clothing

Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes like your favorite strappy sandals or skinny jeans the first several days after an airbrush tan or applying a sunless tanner. Wearing loose fitting clothing instead, like all those sundresses you bought at the beginning of the summer, will help keep your skin evenly bronzed without unnecessary fading on the legs, feet and shoulders.
