8 Skin Care Tips for your 40’s from Real Women

Nicole says – “I did everything wrong when I was a teen – I grew up in Miami and we’d coat ourselves in baby oil and lie out on sheets of Mylar.  Now, I’m really good!  I apply sunscreen and a SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum daily and a prescription retinoid cream five days a week – just a pea-size drop on my face and neck.  They’re worth the splurge but everything else I use comes from the drugstore.”

Lori says – “I’m a spinning instructor, so two to three times a day I get soaking wet with perspiration, blasting out toxins from every pore of my body.  I wipe down with cleansing wipes after every class, and I stash them in the fridge so they’re ice-cold.  Getting really sweaty and then cleaning it all off is my magic combination.”

Kristen says – “Twice a day I cleanse my face and moisturize with Clarins products, which I’ve been using since I was 17, and every third or fourth day I apply a prescription retinoid under my eyes.  I run a lot and always make sure I’m wearing at least SPF 40.  I also drink a ton of water, very little alcohol, and eat healthy foods – I think it helps keep my skin looking fresh.”

Tiffany says – “I wash my face with Dove soap and apply Prevage night cream before bed.  Every once in a while, I’ll switch it to Retin-A.  And I’m very careful about going out in the sun.  I make sure to wear at least SPF 15 on my face every day and, at the beach, I put on huge sunglasses and a giant hat.”

Gina says – “My number-one secret is good sleep.  I put my little ones down at 8:30 or 9 p.m., kiss my older one goodnight, and go straight to bed.  If I don’t, I wake up with dark circles or bags.  I wash every day with a foam cleanser, then apply Pond’s cream, which the women in my family have used for years.”

Yvette says – “Healthy living is my secret to good skin.  I don’t smoke or drink alcohol or soda, and my husband and I like to exercise.  Otherwise, my routine is very boring: soap and water.  I do like to use an anti-puff rollerball eye cream – I usually have that with me.  Also, my grandmother is 90 and has passed down a few all-natural remedies, like using aloe on your skin.”

Valerie says – “I never use soap on my face – my 92-year-old grandmother taught me that.  To take off my makeup, I put a little baby shampoo on my finger, wet it, and gently wipe around my eyes.  Every once in a while, I mix baking soda and water together and use it as a mask to get rid of blackheads.”

Suzanne says – “I use basic soap and moisturizer and, before bed, I slather on a night cream.  I’m always on the hunt for the perfect eye cream, but I have yet to find it!  It’s okay though – a few little laugh lines and crow’s feet that I have don’t really bother me. You have to own it and embrace them.”
