Chinese Beauty Secrets for Healthy Skin

Smooth SkinThere is an old familiar saying, you are what you eat. And this same theme runs true through other cultures as well as our own.

David Murphy, a molecular biologist who studies the effects of diet on our skin, has shared with us a variety of foods that can help protect our skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays. Read his short recommendation to see if you’re eating the right foods to keep your skin looking healthy and youthful.

Chinese Beauty Secret:  Drink Green Tea

For youthful skin, eat foods that protect your skin from the sun. One of the greatest causes of wrinkles and aged skin is accumulated sun exposure over time, but eating certain foods can help protect your skin from the suns damaging effects. Anti-oxidants such as lycopene, lutein, and EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-galate) all help mitigate the aging effects of UVA and UVB rays. These carotenes, xanthophylls, and polyphenols can be found in fresh vegetables, fruits, and plants such as tomatoes, blueberries, bell peppers, carrots, and green tea. Eat these foods and drink green tea regularly for a measurable photo-protective effect and healthy-looking skin!
