Beautiful skin allows a woman to look her youngest.  A glowing, radiant complexion shows people you care about the way you look.  In fact, the first impression your face makes is so important it is well worth the effort required to learn and faithfully practice the Five Important Skin Care Tips.

When children are too young to look after their own skin, it is up to the adult in charge to do it for them.  According to WebMD, 80% of a person’s lifetime sun exposure is acquired by the age of eighteen.  But by the teen years the young woman should begin to take responsibility for her own skin.  A beautiful tan will only last a short time, but the intense rays of the sun will damage the skin for years to come.  The ultra violet rays cause wrinkles because elastin fibers break down which causes sagging and doesn’t allow the skin to snap back into place after stretching.  It also causes dry skin, discolored spots, and possibly even cancerous or non-cancerous tumors in the days to come.  Sun damaged skin takes longer to heal, and it bruises and tears easily.

Direct exposure to the sun should be avoided if at all possible, especially during the hours of highest intensity – between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The skin needs to be protected with sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or greater throughout the whole year, not just during the summer months. The sunscreen should be applied 20-30 minutes before going outdoors, and reapplied frequently.  Tops of the feet, ears and other forgotten parts of the body need sunscreen, as well as the face and shoulders!  Clothing and hats offers protection from the sun, especially if made from a tightly woven fabric, such as denim.

A little advance planning will go a long way in preventing skin damage, which can cause health risks and also makes a person appear older than necessary.
