Spider Vein Treatment – Facts and Figures

Spider Veins

Whether you’ve spent years in high-heeled shoes, do high-impact exercises like running and aerobics or have circulation issues – you may have developed spider veins. Though they can be unsightly, but they are treatable.

I researched the topic to find out how much it costs to treat spider veins, how long the results last and what to ask the doctor when you go in for a consultation. Here’s what I learned:

Spider Vein Treatment – Outpatient Surgery
Description: Injection of benign spider and varicose veins, usually in the legs, using a sclerosing solution, which makes veins less visible.
Average Cost: $350 per session, depending on the size of the area treated.
Length of Surgery: 15-45 minutes per treatment
Anesthesia: None
Recovery Time: Return to work immediately or next day.  Moderate exercise in 24 hours.  May need to wear support hose or a compression wrap for 2 days to 2 weeks.
Treatment Frequency: 3-4 monthly treatments, depending on the size of area.
Risks: Blood clots at injection site, pigmentation changes.
Duration of Results: Long-lasting, however, sclerotherapy does not prevent new veins from appearing.
Essential Questions: While sclerotherapy is commonly used to address spider and varicose veins in the legs, it can also be used to minimize the appearance of pronounced veins on the hands.

Sometimes it is hard to treat varicose veins and the last resort is surgery. Always take a rest when doing some repititive work on the wrist and legs to ease up the stress on the veins. ;,;”.
