The Red Door

We recently ran across the quaintest thrift boutique located in Camden, South Carolina.  The proprietor, Jan Kline, has put together the most eclectic group of antiques and thrift purchases going.

If your travels take you South, it really is worth a visit to the shop and a chat with Jan and her die-hard customers.  “If you really love it, buy it, no matter how eclectic an items is, you’ll find a place for it in your home somewhere.  Always buy what you love” – Jan Kline.

From jewelry to household goods, kitchen uniques, furniture to clothing, it’s all at The Red Door.

The Red Door is located at 1104 Campbell Street, Camden, South Carolina 29020.  Phone # 803-312-1906.  Email address: www.reddoorcamden.com.

Hair Care Tips

If you happen to be fond of the snooze button, hairstyles that take shape while you sleep are nothing short of rapture.

Hair Care Tip 1:
Volume Maximizer - Tie upper layers of hair (grabbing it at about an inch above the ears) into a ponytail on top of the head before bed. Unfasten in the morning shake head upside down, and you have hair with body.

Hair Care Tip 2:
Wave Breaker - At night, wet hair with a spray bottle of water, and rub a dime-size dollop of deep conditioner through it, from two inches below the roots to the ends (if you have fine hair, use a volumizer instead of the conditioner). Divide hair into four sections (one on each side and two in the back) and braid each tightly. In the morning, your hair will have beautiful, flowing waves.

Hair Care Tip 3:
Volume Reducer - For a smooth style without lift, sleep with dry hair in a low ponytail. Fasten the elastic at least two inches from the head to avoid getting a ridge from the band.

Beauty Tips

Leading experts recently recommended 5 basic lifestyle changes that are the foundation to beautiful skin.  Some of them seem obvious but it is important to actually make the changes in day-to-day living and doing them altogether increases the individual benefit of each one.

  1. Fill up on Fiber
Steer clear of fried and processed foods and reach for high-fiber, complex carbs such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole-grain products. Fibrous foods digest slowly, so blood sugar levels remain steady.
  2. Learn to Relax – especially on the job
Two ways to ease tension: exercise and relaxation techniques, both of which can lower cortisol and keep blood sugar levels stable. Practice muscle relaxation anywhere by simply tensing and then relaxing all muscles in your body.
  3. Whittle Your Waist
A mere 5%-10% reduction in weight, coupled with 30 minutes of daily heart-pumping exercise is enough to reduce diabetes risk by nearly 60%.
  4. Quit Smoking
Substances in cigarettes, such as nicotine and cadmium, can spike levels of stress hormones, slowing insulin production.
  5. Fuel Your Body
Skipping meals makes your body work harder to keep blood sugar under control, eventually desensitizing cells’ response to insulin.
