Victoria's Secret CEO Shares Her Beauty Secrets!

In a recent interview, Victoria Secret’s CEO, Christine Beauchamp, shared a few of her beauty secrets.  Here they are:

  1. Switch-up Your Look – if you don’t, you’ll be a caricature of yourself.  I used to have really thick brows.  People kept telling me, “Thought about waxing?”  I eventually had to listen.
  2. Scrub – Women use exfoliators only occasionally, but I can’t advocate it enough.  Your skin will look much sleeker, from your face to your legs.
  3. To Play up Your Cleavage – run bronzer down the middle of your chest, then shimmer powder.  I learned this from a makeup artist at a Victoria’s Secret shoot.  They know their stuff!
  4. Spritz behind your knees, too – “Body heat makes scent rise, so you get a subtle lift all day long.”
  5. Never try too hard – “It’s the biggest mistake women make when they want to look sexy.  Don’t do a revealing top and red lips and a smoky eye.”

34 Menopause Symptoms

Last month we promised you that we would cover each of the 34 Menopause Symptoms (one every month) – this month is Difficulty Concentrating.

You can experience difficulty concentrating before, during, and after menopause.  This symptom is extremely frustrating – I can attest to this personally as it’s the one menopause symptom that bothers me the most.

First, let’s explain what difficulty concentrating means.  It can be associated with depression, stress, sleep disorders, and aging.  If it’s menopause-related, the usual symptom is forgetting names of people, places, things, etc.  You still know them, you just can’t bring them to your mind when you want to.

If you have trouble remembering how to do things you’ve done many times before (such as getting to a place you’ve been often), or doing things that use steps (like following a recipe), then you may have a more serious problem.

Difficulty concentrating usually involves a decrease in the functioning of the short-term memory.  This is why people who suffer from it can remember events that happened years ago, but can’t remember recent events (like where they left the keys, or names of people, places, things, etc.).

The causes of difficulty concentrating are usually divided into two groups – psychological and physical.  It’s generally accepted that physical causes are responsible for most cases of difficulty concentrating.

Psychological Causes – There are two groups of psychological causes - those related to rare psychological disorders and those related to life stresses.  The first group consists of rare hereditary diseases provoked by chemical imbalances in the brain.  The second group is related to daily stress, overwork, and fatigue.

Physical Causes – The main cause of difficulty concentrating is hormonal imbalance.  Estrogen controls the cortisol hormone, which blocks the function of neurotransmitters (chemicals that brain cells use to communicate with each other).  When estrogen levels fall, the hormone ceases to effectively control cortisol.  Neurotransmitters then start to malfunction, resulting in difficulty concentrating.  Therefore, controlling estrogen hormone imbalance is an important step in reducing this problem.

Other, rarer causes of difficulty concentrating are Alzheimer’s disease, alcoholism, brain infections, and some medication.  However, as imbalanced hormone levels are the most common cause of difficulty concentrating, there are a variety of safe and effective ways of coping with it – such as using a natural progesterone cream that can be applied topically.

Before you take any steps, however, you should visit your doctor to determine what your actual cause is.
